sending a notification by pressing a button
I am wanting to setup a button similar to the demo that was posted in the kickstarter video. Is this an option without a breakout board? In other words, If i have a 3.5mm trrs cable, can i solder on a momentary switch like this one: http://www.westfloridacomponents.com/SW078/Push+Button+Momentary+Switch+SPST+NO+Off+On+3A+125VAC.html

I wish this was possible, but unfortunately it isn't. Each board connected to twine has a unique id. You need to use the breakout board.

Yes, that pushbutton or any other normally-open momentary contact switch will work.
If you have the moisture sensor you can probably connect the switch to the tabs on that and it will work the same as if you had a breakout board.
If you don't have either the moisture sensor or the breakout board I think you're out of luck. You can't create a rule for a sensor if you don't have the sensor plugged in.
