  Okay, so apparently I was having a glitch so my rule for when the switch opens wasn't firing.  Now I've refreshed the rules and it works.

  No sensor needed, Try mounting your Twine on your Garage Door.  Here are the rules: 

  WHEN tzoffset× changes to back side up, "Garage Door is Closed"

  WHEN tzoffset× changes to bottom side up, "Garage Door is Opened"

  The first one just uses the Twine's orientation sensor with the Twine mounted to the door.  The second uses a purpose build magnetic sensor for garage doors.

  the vibration option makes this really easy...I set my Twine on top of the garage door opener motor housing and wrote a rule to trigger based on vibration. It works great.
  
  Another benefit is having electricity available to plug the twine in two, most garages have an AC outlet right next to the garage door motor for easy reach.

  forget vibration for garage door monitoring use orientation. when twine changes position garage door moved. very simple
